NAUGATUCK — A borough police officer and two other drivers were injured Tuesday night in a car accident on New Haven Road, near the Crosspointe Plaza shopping center.

At about 9 p.m., Officer Ryan Burns was responding to a medical call with his lights and siren on when Holly Wilson, 53, of 800 Osborne Road, made a left turn out of the shopping center’s parking lot, Lt. Robert Harrison of the Naugatuck Police Department said. Wilson’s 2009 Kia Spectra collided with the police car, which was traveling southbound on New Haven Road, Harrison said.

The police car, a Ford Crown Victoria, spun across the road’s center line and struck a 2010 Toyota Corolla driven by Daniel Morera-Barquero, 47, of 18 General Patton Drive.

All three drivers suffered injuries, which Harrison said did not appear to be life-threatening.

Burns was treated and released from Waterbury Hospital, spokesman Matt Burgard said. Wilson and Morera-Barquero were not taken there, Burgard said.

Harrison said the police report did not say where they were hospitalized.

All three cars had to be towed from the scene. New Haven Road was closed until 12:37 a.m. Wednesday, Harrison said.

The borough’s patrol lieutenant is helping the state accident reconstruction team investigate the accident and determine fault.

No charges or citations had been issued as of this post.
