NAUGATUCK — A borough motorcyclist suffered minor injuries early Saturday when he lost control of his bike and jumped a curb, landing in the parking lot of Cross Street Intermediate School, police said.

James Oppedisano, 44, of Naugatuck, crashed his 2008 Harley Davidson FXE at approximately 12:30 a.m., according to Lt. Bryan Cammarata Naugatuck Police Department.

Cammarata said that Oppedisano had gotten off Route 8 at exit 25 and was headed up Cross Street when he lost control of the motorcycle. The motorcycle went down on its right side and skidded into Cross Street School’s lower parking lot.

Oppedisano, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered a laceration to his forehead and minor injuries, Cammarata said. He refused treatment.

The motorcycle had front end damage and damage to the handlebars, he said.

Cammarata said Oppedisano told police he lost control because the road was wet. He was issued a written warning for failure to drive right, Cammarata said.

Residents identified that section of Cross Street as a problem area during a hearing last month on a plan to reconstruct the road.

“It is accidents such as these that raise much concern by those residing on this street, and that raise red flags when those from the [Department of Transportation] state that curves in the roads decrease the speed of travel,” resident Philip Hughes wrote in an email.
