FireDepartmentNAUGATUCK — A 29-year-old Mulberry Street man had second degree burns over 30 percent to 40 percent of his body after his clothes caught fire in his home Tuesday.

Nate Gherard was taken to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury initially then transferred to burn unit at Bridgeport Hospital.
Acting Deputy Fire Marshal William Scanlon said the fire didn’t spread beyond where the clothes had dropped. As of this post, firefighters were still trying to determine how the man’s clothes caught fire at the 551 Mulberry St. home.

Fire Chief Ken Hanks said the fire was accidental and investigators are waiting for the Gherard to recover to speak to him.
