WEST HAVEN — A 36-year-old Naugatuck man died after being shot early Monday morning while driving a car behind a West Haven apartment complex.

Police responding to reports of gunshots on Jaffey Street in West Haven found Jason E. Roman with gunshot wounds.

West Haven police said Roman was shot while driving a vehicle, causing him to crash into the rear of an apartment complex. He was found a short distance from his car. He was taken to Yale New-Haven Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The building suffered heavy damage, according to police.

West Haven police said, in a press release, the investigation suggests the shooting was an isolated incident with no reason to believe there’s a danger to the broader public.
