FireDepartmentNAUGATUCK – Firefighters quickly knocked down a fire at a two-family wood-frame home on South Main Street on Saturday.

No one was injured in the fire at 113 South Main St., Fire Chief Kenneth Hanks said. No one was inside the home by the time firefighters arrived, he said. The call came in at about 12:30 p.m.

The cause is under investigation, Hanks said.

Michael Schmitt, assistant manager at Napa Auto Parts at 125 South Main St., which is next door to the home, said he called 911 after he looked out the window, saw smoke and a customer ran in saying the house was on fire.

Hanks said the front portion of the first floor sustained fire damage, and the rest of the structure sustained smoke damage. Firefighters knocked down the fire within minutes, he said.

Police detoured traffic in the area between Maple Street and Route 8 for about an hour and a half while the fire was being investigated.
