NAUGATUCK — A borough man was charged Wednesday with abusing his 14-year-old daughter.

Randal Ruelle, 43, of 668 New Haven Road, was charged after his daughter reported she was being abused, according to police.

Ruelle’s daughter told police her father and stepmother, 32-year-old M’lissa Ruelle, hit her across the legs with a metal pole, scratched at her eyes and punched her. Police said they saw bruises and scratches on the teen’s body and face during the investigation. The abuse has been going on for a year, police said.

Police arrested M’lissa Ruelle last week. Randal Ruelle was arrested while at court for other matters, including charges he forged a letter from a workers’ compensation commissioner to convince his landlord he was going to receive a settlement he would use to pay money owed.

Randal Ruelle also faces charges of third-degree assault, risk of injury to a child, first-degree reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and cruelty to persons.
