NAUGATUCK — Due to low demand, Andrew Avenue Elementary School will no longer function as an overnight shelter, according to Mayor Robert A. Mezzo. It will be used as a warming and shower station until 5 p.m., serving lunch to those without power.

Residents contact the Naugatuck Fire Department at (203) 720-7082 or (203) 720-7083 to arrange transportation to an out-of-town shelter.

The Howard Whittemore Library will also remain a warming station where residents can charge electronics and eat light snacks and beverages.

About 675 customers in Naugatuck remain without power, and three Connecticut Light & Power crews are assigned to the borough today. They will be working on Golden HIll Street, Lewis Street, Andrew Avenue, a May Street circuit, Nicole Drive and the Evelyn Drive/Krodel Road area.

Connections attached to houses are the homeowner’s responsibility, according to Mezzo. Homeowners should call licensed electricians if their connections are damaged.
