The borough will begin delivering about 1,950 96-gallon, garnet, single stream recycling barrels this week.

NAUGATUCK — The Public Works Department will begin delivering 96-gallon barrels for recycling this week to residents who have their trash collected on Tuesdays or Thursdays and don’t already have the barrels.

Cascade Engineering is scheduled to begin delivering about 1,950 garnet recycling barrels on Wednesday morning. All of the barrels are expected to be delivered by Friday.

The borough received a $98,160 grant to buy the barrels, which enabled the borough to purchase the barrels a year and a half ahead of schedule.

Residents who have collection days on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays will receive both gray and garnet barrels over the summer. At that time 100 percent of the borough will have the garnet single stream recycling carts and 80 percent will have the gray trash carts.
