NAUGATUCK — The next contract for school administrators will be settled in arbitration.
The Board of Mayor and Burgesses March 3 unanimously rejected a proposed three-year contract the Board of Education reached with the Naugatuck Administrators Negotiation Association.
The present contract with the union, which represents administrators in borough public schools, expires on June 30. The contract heading to arbitration is for July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2023.
Board of Education Chairman Jeff Litke said the board negotiated and reached a tentative contract agreement with the union in November. The contract went to the union to be ratified, then the school board approved it in February.
“I would’ve like to seen it approved but I respect the burgesses’ decisions because they have their thoughts,” Litke said. “It will go to the arbitration and it will get settled.”
Borough officials didn’t release details on the proposed contract.
In a subsequent interview, Mayor N. Warren “Pete” Hess declined to comment on the contract and the decision to reject it.
Cheryl Kane, principal of Maple Hill Elementary School and president of the administrators’ union, didn’t return a message left seeking comment.
