CNLogo1NAUGATUCK — A Connecticut State Police bomb squad was called in at a Cherry Street Extension home on Sunday afternoon after property owners cleaning their garage found a box of railroad detonator devices.

Capt. Richard Alfes of the Naugatuck Fire Department said they were called to the home at 1:34 p.m. by the homeowners who had discovered the box with about 30 to 40 of the devices. The detonators are little explosive charges used along train tracks to signal warnings to train conductors of such events like fog, or work ahead or a broken down train.

Alfes said they apparently had belonged to a previous homeowner who worked or the railroad service.

The devices looked old and had crystallized. They were taken away by the bomb squad to be destroyed in a safe location, Alfes said.
