NAUGATUCK — Though the Board of Mayor and Burgesses spent a good deal of time Tuesday night commenting on the Board of Education’s financial problems, they did approve new appointments, bids, and tax refunds. Following is an itemization of these approvals:

  • Approved appointment of Simon Robert Wake to position of Tax Assessor
  • Approved appointment of Wayne Zirolli, former Assistant Engineer, to position of Engineer to replace Jim Stewart, who was recently reassigned to Town Planner. The shift is a part of the borough’s “ongoing effort to reorganize the public works department,” said Mayor Bob Mezzo
  • Approved reappointment of Patrick Corbett as a regular member of the Golf Commission, term to expire June 2, 2012
  • Approved reappointment of John Ford as a regular member of the Street Commission, term to expire July 1, 2014
  • Approved reappointment of Katherine Gabrielson as an alternate member of the Planning Commission, term to expire Nov. 1, 2013
  • Approved a bid of $94,870 to D&P Construction of Trumbull for sidewalk replacement on North Main Street
  • Approved a bid for winter salt for snow and ice control to Morton Salt of Chicago, Ill. in the amount of $66.64 per ton delivered
  • Approved a bid for Ice B’ Gone to International Salt of Pennsylvania in the amount of $90.18 per ton delivered
  • Approved a bid for winter sand for snow and ice control to H.I. Stone & Son Inc. of Southbury in the amount of $11.74 per ton delivered
  • Approved a bid for Santa’s Village roofing replacement to Allerton Development, Inc. of Naugatuck in the amount of $11,800 subject to transfer of required funding from the finance board
  • Approved the Mayor to sign an agreement for a federal grant for construction on the Rubber Avenue Bridge Project across from the Park and Recreation department building. Stewart said the stimulus money would cover the cost of construction.
  • Approved tax refunds to various individuals and businesses previously approved by Tax Collector Jim Goggin
