BEACON FALLS – The town website is set to get a sprucing up.

The Board of Selectman recently voted to hire a new vendor, Virtual Town Hall, which specializes in building municipal websites.

“We think that it will be the best way to go,” First Selectman Susan Cable said.

The company has over 300 municipalities as clients, including several in Connecticut, according to Selectman Michael Krenesky.

Krenesky said it would take ten weeks to get the new site up and running, once they sign the contract.

Krenesky said the current website has met the needs of Town Hall up to this point, but the new website will be more robust and feature-rich.

The town initially built its own website, but that was a lot of work, Krenesky said.

“In the past we’ve had a local person who was doing our website,” Cable said.

The new site already has templates for all the pages the town will need. It’s ready-made to handle the needs of various boards and commissions.

“They’ve already done all the hard work,” Krenesky said.

The new site will have a lot of customizable features, including a community calendar, and video streaming, according to Virtual Town Hall’s website.

The town will work with the company to design the site.

Beacon Falls already has the funding for the website, which costs close to $6,000 for the first year, in its current budget, Krenesky said.

The current website allows the town to post minutes and agendas as required by the state.

“The new site’s going to allow us to go even further,” Krenesky said.

  1. The Town of Beacon Falls is live on the web with a new temporary look!

Effective Friday April 1st, the Town of Beacon Falls will have an interim website in operation until its new site, which is currently under construction, is ready for a late Spring introduction.

The interim site is using the same address as the old town website, so when you launch your bookmarked site or search for Beacon Falls, you will find the Town’s website easily. You can also just cut & paste the following into your browser: http://www.beaconfalls-ct.org/

Please remember we are under construction. The temporary site may have limited function & features, the background theme/colors and site layout is still being designed, and new & archived documents (minutes/agendas) may not be available until the permanent site is launched. We are sorry for that inconvenience.

Please note that the calendar has been loaded with the April meeting schedule, the links to the Public Library, Fire Department, and the several Boards & Commissions that have current websites are available from the interim site.
