BEACON FALLS — Stanley J. Kuzma Jr., age 74, entered eternal rest on Sept. 2, 2024, at his home in Beacon Falls, with his family by his side, after a brief, aggressive battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of 54 years to Diane Zasun Kuzma.
Stanley was born in Derby on Nov. 12, 1949, son of the late Stanley J. Kuzma Sr. and Bertha Tanner Kuzma. He was raised in Seymour where he graduated from Seymour High School, then went on to attain his bachelor’s degree from Central Connecticut State University, and later received his master’s degree.
Stanley later moved to Beacon Falls, where he resided for the last 50 years. He was employed as a high school business teacher for the Amity Regional Board of Education for 36 years until his retirement.
During his years teaching in Amity, he was the business manager of the Athletic Department. Stanley served in the United States National Guard for 10 years. In his earlier years, Stanley coached his son and daughter’s sports teams and later had the privilege of attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, cheering them on as their No. 1 fan.
He was very athletic and enjoyed golfing, bicycling, sometimes 30 miles in one outing, and playing slow pitch softball in the Valley area for many years. Stanley took pride in tending to his yard and vegetable garden. He was a fan of UConn basketball, New York Yankees, and New York Giants.
In addition to his wife Diane, Stanley leaves to cherish his memory, a daughter, Candyce M. Nolan of Prospect; a son, Kevin J. Kuzma (Janet) of Newtown; sisters, Patricia Shelton (Robert) of Seymour, and Sandra Kuzma of Beacon Falls; grandchildren, Luke M. Nolan, Rory M. Nolan, Lily M. Kuzma, Kendall B. Kuzma, Brynn J. Kuzma, and Braxton S. Kuzma.
He also leaves behind his two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Christine (Zenon) Szwaba and Julie (Pasquale) D’Onofrio, with whom he enjoyed many day trips and spending time with; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his in-laws, Sophie and Antoni Zasun and a brother-in-law, Anthony Zasun.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Hartford HealthCare Hospice team of Watertown for all their support, care, and comfort.
Relatives and friends were invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Friday, Sept. 13, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the chapel of Spinelli-Ricciuti Funeral Home, 62 Beaver St. in Ansonia. On Saturday morning, Sept. 14, 2024, all were invited to attend his funeral by meeting directly at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Church, 25 Maple Ave., Beacon Falls, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Inurnment was to immediately follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Ansonia.
