BEACON FALLS — Beacon Falls Public Library Director Susan Dowdell submitted her resignation this month.

In a June 12 letter to the Board of Selectmen, Dowdell said she’s accepted a library director job in Springfield, Vt., and her last day in Beacon Falls will be July 12.

“I have loved this little library since I first met Janice Doll and Connie Christensen in the mid-late 1980s. Having been involved in the Friends of the Beacon Falls Library since its inception in the early ’90s, being on the library board, and having the great fortune of being a library staff member, this library has been a part of me for a very long time,” Dowdell wrote in the letter. “There has been great progress at Beacon Falls Library since my first library visits. I thank my staff for their ingenuity in trying to meet as many of the needs of our community as they could, despite the space limitations. Their efforts have been very much appreciated.”

First Selectman Christopher Bielik said the town is following the guidelines of the union contract to search for candidates by posting the job internally. He said the town received permission from the union to post it externally, as well, due to the short notice.

“I’m fully confident in the staff’s ability to provide our usual level of service until the search process is completed,” he said.
