BEACON FALLS — An access point to the west block of the Naugatuck State Forest via Cold Spring Road was closed today and will remain so until about September to allow for a bridge replacement.

The state Department of Transportation contractors will replace the bridge crossing Spruce Brook, according to a release by the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. The new infrastructure will improve fish passage and be upgraded to meet safety standards, the release states.

Visitors can continue to access the western portion from Hunters Mountain Road in Naugatuck, Chestnut Tree Hill in Oxford and Route 42 in Beacon Falls.
