Assessor issues personal property declarations

NAUGATUCK — The Assessor’s Office has mailed out forms and instructions to owners of personal property.

The forms must be returned to the office by Nov. 1 for taxable property owned as of Oct., 1, 2012. Taxable personal property includes unregistered motor vehicles; personal property in professional, commercial or business operations; aircraft; machinery; livestock; commercial furniture, fixtures and equipment; farm machinery and tools.

Owners of real property are not required to file, nor are owners of vehicles if they are licensed by the state.

Any personal property owner who doesn’t submit the forms will face a 25 percent penalty. Anyone who hasn’t received the forms can contact the Assessor’s Office in order to avoid a penalty charge.
