PROSPECT — Two employees of the Sunoco gas station on Waterbury Road (Route 69) were robbed and tied up as they tried to close up shop around 10 p.m. Monday night.

Two suspects, described by police as a black male and a Hispanic male, entered the store wearing bandanas over their faces, displayed a handgun and forced the employees, who were locking up for the night, to the ground before tying them up and stealing cash and cigarettes from the store.

Additionally, the suspects stole personal property from the victims, including a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Police later recovered the vehicle and another they said was related to the robbery abandoned behind a business on Harpers Ferry Road in Waterbury. Both vehicles were seized and towed to State Police Troop I in Bethany.

Troopers and town officers responded to the scene, and state police, who gathered evidence and conducted interviews with several witnesses, continue to investigate the robbery, which follows on the heels of an attempted burglary of the nearby Shell station last week.

State police are asking anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area to call Troop I at (203) 393-4200; calls will be kept confidential.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
