Armed man robs Cumberland Farms in Naugatuck

NAUGATUCK — Police are investigating a late-night armed robbery at the Cumberland Farms at 69 Rubber Ave.

Police said a lone man armed with a handgun robbed the store at the intersection of Rubber Avenue and Meadow Street at about 3:15 a.m. on Wednesday. The man stole about $130 in cash and 50 packs of cigarettes, police said.

The man, who was wearing a mask that covered the lower half of his face, a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants, stuffed the cash and cigarettes into a small duffle bag or a satchel-style bag before fleeing the store. Witnesses reported the man may have fled the scene in a car, possibly a dark-colored sedan, police said.

No injuries were reported.

The suspect is described as a heavyset, white man, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall with scars on his forehead. Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to contact the Naugatuck Police Department at 203-729-5221 or the department’s confidential tip line at 203-720-1010.
