CT Special Olympics raising money through marathon

Renee DiNino, of The River 105.9 FM, will serve as Honorary Captain of the Special Olympics Connecticut team for the 2012 ING Hartford Marathon.

The ING Hartford Marathon gives nonprofit organizations the opportunity to raise funds to help them fulfill their missions. This year marks the first that Special Olympics Connecticut will be among the charities that will participate. The event will take place on Oct. 13 at Bushnell Park in Hartford. Race time is 8 a.m.

To “Run with Renee” and benefit Special Olympics Connecticut, visit www.soct.org, click on the Hartford ING Marathon logo and follow the steps to register. There are two ways to be part of the “Run with Renee” team: register to run the 5k, marathon or half-marathon, or make a donation in support of DiNino on her personal fundraising page at www.soct.org. Those who run with Special Olympics will have the opportunity to attend a meet and greet with Special Olympics athletes. In addition, participants who raise $100 or more will receive an official Special Olympics moisture wick runner’s shirt.

Easter Seals reschedules golf benefit

WATERBURY — The annual Golf Classic to benefit Easter Seals has been rescheduled for Oct. 1 at Watertown Golf Club, Watertown.
The $200 entry covers 18 holes of golf, green fees, cart, continental breakfast, lunch, dinner, and prizes for both men and women. Tee off time IS 11 a.m.

Proceeds benefit Easter Seals programs and services for infants, children, and adults with disabilities throughout greater Waterbury, central, and northwestern Connecticut.

Notre Dame Academy to hold reunion

Notre Dame Academy will hold a reunion for all alumni Oct. 5 at the Waterbury Country Club, 1 Oronoke Road, Waterbury, from 7 to 11 p.m.

Alumni from all years and their spouses are invited to attend. Tickets are $75. Orchestra presents season opening concert

WATERBURY — The Waterbury Symphony is opening its 75th season Sept. 29 with its presentation of Celebrazione.

The concert will be held at 8 p.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Community College Mainstage Theater. A pre-concert reception will be held from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. in the Playbox Theater at the NVCC.

Tickets for the pre-concert reception are $40 per person or $75 for a pair. Seating is limited. Tickets for the concert are $20, $30, and $50. Student tickets are $5 and students are asked to bring their student identification.
