Saint John’s hosting Apple Harvest Festival

MIDDLEBURY — The parish of Saint John of the Cross in Middlebury will host an Apple Harvest Festival at Shepardson Community Center Sept. 16.

The festival will feature a variety of food such as apple fritters, a tag sale, a silent auction and children activities. The festival runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine, at the Shepardson Community Center, 1172 Whittemore Road in Middlebury. Center offers program to quit smoking

WATERBURY — The Heart Center of Greater Waterbury and The Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center are providing a Freedom from Smoking Clinic.

Classes will be held on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 20 through Nov. 1 at The Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, 1075 Chase Parkway, Waterbury.

Participants must be at least 18 years old to register. Space is limited to 20 participants. The cost of the clinic is $25 and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information or to register, call (203) 575-1992.

OLLI holding driver safety courses

WATERBURY — The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Connecticut in Waterbury will offer AARP Driver Safety Courses Sept. 24 and Nov. 12.

The courses will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

To receive a certificate, people must attend one of the classes. The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for Non-AARP members. OLLI membership is not required to register. To register or for more information, call (203) 236-9924 or e-mail osher@uconn.edu.

Regional chamber to hold awards dinner

WATERBURY — The Waterbury Regional Chamber of Commerce is hosting its 18th annual Malcolm Baldridge Awards dinner Tuesday.

The chamber will honor Fritz Blasius, owner of Blasius Chevrolet Cadillac, with the 2012 Malcolm Baldrige Community Award. The chamber will also recognize Mary Rosengrant-Chiappalone, of Biondi & Rosengrant, with the Leadership Award and John Famiglietti, of Drubner Commercial, with the Volunteer Award.
