Brass City Ballet announces auditions for Nutcracker

MIDDLEBURY — Brass City Ballet will hold open auditions for dancers with or without previous experience for its annual production of The Nutcracker this weekend.

Auditions will be held Sept. 14 from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 pm for dancers ages 12 and up with previous dance experience. Auditions for children ages 5 to 12, with or without experience, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m.

On Sept. 15 auditions will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. for children ages 5 to 12 with or without experience. Auditions will be held at Brass City Ballet’s studios in The Hamlet at 1255 Middlebury Road. All participants are asked to arrive a half hour before the audition in order to register.

Polo match to benefit equine therapy project

WOODBRIDGE — Animal Assisted Therapy Services, Inc. and Giant Valley Polo Club will host a benefit polo match Sept. 15 to benefit the Wounded Warrior Equine Therapy Project.

The match will be held at the Giant Valley Polo Club, 640 Tuttle Ave., Hamden, from 1 to 8 p.m. rain or shine. The event will feature live music from 5 to 7 p.m.

Proceeds will benefit the Wounded Warrior Equine Project beginning this fall for veterans and their families. Tickets are $30 per car or $15 each. Tickets are available at www.animalassistedtherapyservices.org.

Founded and directed by Chris Patella, Animal Assisted Therapy Services, Inc. provides equine therapy, canine therapy, and music programs in Connecticut.

Golf classic to benefit Easter Seals

WATERTOWN — The annual Golf Classic to benefit Easter Seals will be held Sept. 17, at Watertown Golf Club.

The $200 entry covers 18 holes of golf, green fees, cart, continental breakfast, lunch, dinner, and prizes. The format is a modified scramble with a tee off time of 11 a.m. Sponsorships are still available.

Proceeds benefit Easter Seals programs and services for infants, children, and adults with disabilities throughout greater Waterbury, central, and northwestern Connecticut.

Women’s Fund to host anniversary celebration

WATERBURY — The Women’s Fund of the Connecticut Community Foundation will hold its 2013 Annual Gathering and 20th Anniversary Celebration Sept. 18.

The celebration will be held at 5:30 p.m. at The Country Club of Waterbury, One Oronoke Road. Ana Oliveira, president and CEO of The New York Women’s Foundation, will be the guest speaker.

Saturday Night Live alum to perform at hospital gala

DERBY — Ana Gasteyer, of ABC’s Suburgatory and former Saturday Night Live star, will headline the 2013 Griffin Hospital Gala “Something Wicked Funny This Way Comes” Sept. 20 at the Shubert Theater in New Haven.

In addition to musical entertainment, the Griffin Gala offers a unique, optional dining experience at several restaurants in the New Haven theater district. Dinner guests ($175 a ticket) will gather at the Shubert Theater at 5 p.m. for a networking cocktail reception before being escorted to their chosen restaurant. Guests not attending dinner ($85 a ticket) will gather at 7 p.m. to begin their evening with a cocktail reception.

Heart Center support group meeting

WATERBURY — The Heart Center of Greater Waterbury Support Group will be held Sept. 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, 1075 Chase Parkway.

This month’s topic is: “Heart Disease and Diabetes.” The support group provides a forum for patients to meet others who have had similar cardiac procedures, while offering the group members the opportunity to share experiences and increase their knowledge of heart related information.
