OXFORD — The Wings of Freedom Tour will touch down at the Oxford-Waterbury Airport this weekend.

The Wings of Freedom Tour, sponsored by The Collings Foundation, is a living history display of military World War II aircrafts, such as the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, Consolidated B-24 Liberator, and North American B-25 Mitchell.

The tour will be at the airport, 288 Christian St., from Sept. 6 through Sept. 8. Visitors can tour the aircrafts. Walk-through tours are $12 for adults and $6 for children 12 years old and younger. Thirty minute flights aboard the B-17 or B-24 are available for $425 per person. Reservations are needed to take flights and can be made by calling (800) 568-8924 or visiting www.collingsfoundation.com.

Veterans from World War II are invited to attend at no cost. Veterans are asked to bring memorabilia and share their stories with fellow veterans and the public. Tables will be set up for WWII veterans on Sept. 7 and Sept. 8. Veterans can come and go at their leisure.

DAV holding monthly meeting

WATERBURY — The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 11 will hold its monthly meeting Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.

The meeting will be held at St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Conference Center on Union Street. A certified service officer will be on hand to help veterans and their families fill out claim forms. Griffin Hospital hosts workshops on diabetes

DERBY — The Diabetes Education and Support Group at Griffin Hospital will host two free presentations about diabetes treatments and management on Sept. 10 at Griffin Hospital, 103 Division St, in Derby.

The first workshop will be held at 2:30 p.m. in Griffin Hospital’s Meditation and Learning Center room 1. The second workshop will be held at 6:30 p.m. in room 2 of Griffin Hospital’s dining room. No registration is required. For more information, call Mary Swansiger at (203) 732-1137.

Quilts that Care holding meeting

WATERBURY — Quilts that Care, an organization that makes quilts for people who undergo cancer treatment, will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, 1075 Chase Parkway, Waterbury.

Brunch to benefit breast wellness center

DERBY — A community-wide fundraiser brunch will be held Sept. 8 at the La Sala Banquet Hall, Sons of Italy, 23 High St., to benefit The Hewitt Center for Breast Wellness at Griffin Hospital in Derby.

Hosted by Ralph Durante, the brunch is inspired by his wife, Anna, who is a breast cancer survivor. The brunch will be from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $40 and are available in advance or at the door. Proceeds will benefit The Valley Goes Pink, a grassroots, community-wide effort throughout the lower Naugatuck Valley to support The Hewitt Center for Breast Wellness.
