DERBY — Griffin Hospital is hosting a free men’s health talk and free prostate cancer screening June 18 at 6 p.m. in honor of Men’s Health Awareness Month.

Dr. Brian Sperling will present “What’s a Man to Do?”, an open discussion of men’s health issues with a special focus on prostate cancer, low testosterone and sexual health. Attendees over 50 years old can have a free Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) blood test.

The presentation is part of Griffin Hospital’s Healthy U “Tuesday Talks,” a series of free wellness talks. All Tuesday Talks are held in the hospital’s Meditation and Learning Center, 130 Division St.

Regional chamber hosting awards ceremony

WATERBURY — The Waterbury Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Health Care Council will host its 8th Annual Members’ Breakfast and Awards Ceremony June 18 at 8 a.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Southbury.

The breakfast program will present awards to four health care professionals and one health care organization in the Greater Waterbury region. Staywell Health Center will receive the HCC’s Organizational Excellence Award. Dr. Steven Aronin of Waterbury Hospital and Dr. Michael Simms of Saint Mary’s Health Systems will receive the HCC’s Leadership Award. Jim O’Rourke of the Greater Waterbury YMCA will receive the Stephen Sasala Health Advocate Award. Dr. David Knight of Waterbury Hospital will receive the HCC’s Unsung Hero Award.

During the breakfast, three retiring council board members will also be recognized — Kevin Kniery of the Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, Dr. Peter Zilahy of Peter M. Zilahy, DC, DABCO and John Koliani of Cohn Reznick.

Bethany Volunteer Fire Department to put on a show

BETHANY — The Bethany Volunteer Fire Department and the department’s auxiliary is hosting its 6th annual Car, Truck and Bike Show & Garden Tractor Pulls June 22.

The show will be held at the old Bethany airport, 765 Amity Road. Show vehicles can enter at 10 a.m. there is a $10 entry fee. Garden tractor pulls registration is at 8 a.m. and t pulls start at 9 a.m. A $5 entry fee applies. Antique cars and trucks, muscle cars, motorcycles, and big trucks all welcomed.

Salvation Army seeking volunteers for LemonAid Days

WATERBURY — The Salvation Army of Greater Waterbury offered an open invitation youth groups, families and individuals to take part in the LemonAid Days Campaign.

The campaign is a fundraiser during which people sell lemonade at a stand to raise money and awareness for homeless children living in the organization’s family emergency shelter.

Anyone interested in participating will be given a publicity kit containing the information and promotional material they’ll need to get started. The campaign runs through July 19 and a grand finale event will be held July 20 for all participants at Chase Park in Waterbury.

ADD/ADHD support group to meet

WOLCOTT — The monthly meeting of an ADD/ADHD support group in Wolcott will be held June.

The group will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Wolcott Activity and Learning Center, 48 Todd Road. The guest speaker will be Kelly Fuerstenberg, a wellness coach. The group will discuss natural options and strategies to manage ADD/ADHD symptoms. All parents dealing with children having ADD/ADHD symptoms are invited to attend.

Waterbury church hosting Strawberry Social

WATERBURY — South Congregational Church, 160 Piedmont St., is hosting its annual Strawberry Social June 20 from 6 to 8 p.m.
