SEYMOUR — The Seymour Historical Society is hosting a Civil War encampment Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the society’s grounds, 59 West St.

The day will include military drills and weapons firing demonstrations. At 12 p.m., a cook will show how soldiers’ meals were prepared over an open fire.

WSO announces rescheduled show

WATERBURY — Due to a snowstorm in March, the Waterbury Symphony Orchestra postponed the John Williams Pops concert. The concert will now be held April 27, 2013 at 8 p.m. at Litchfield Intermediate School, 35 Plumb Hill Road in Litchfield.

Maestro Leif Bjaland will lead the orchestra in this tribute to the music of John Williams.
Concert patrons are invited to attend a free pre-concert reception at Brandywine Senior Living.

Connecticut POPS! sponsoring free concert

WATERBURY — The Connecticut POPS! is sponsoring a free concert May 3 at 7:30 p.m. at Naugatuck Valley Community College’s Mainstage Theatre, 750 Chase Parkway.

The concert, “Mystical, Magical Music,” is for people of all ages and will include selections from Harry Potter, Cirque du Soleil, Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Phantom of the Opera and Wizard of Ox.

Poetry program to feature Barone

WATERBURY — Dennis Barone will be the featured poet at the Calling All Poets program May 1 at the Silas Bronson Library, 267 Grand St. at 6:30 p.m.

A professor of English and American studies at the University of Saint Joseph, Barone is the author of 18 titles of poetry and fiction.

‘Girl Talk’ lecture continues

MIDDLEBURY — The sixth installment in the series “Girl Talk” will be held May 6.

The program, “Should I or Shouldn’t I?” will cover the topics of fibroids, polyps and heavy bleeding. The informative talk will be presented by Dr. Joseph David Millerick and Dr. Elizabeth Kelly, physicians with The Center for Women’s Health, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the café of the Middlebury Consignment Shops, 1365 Whittemore Road.

The free lectures were launched in October 2012 focusing on women’s health and wellness. The series is being hosted by The Center for Women’s Health in Connecticut in collaboration with Naugatuck Valley Radiology Associates, and is scheduled for the first Monday of most months.
