Dancemakers holding final workshop

MIDDLEBURY — Brass City Ballet, in partnership with the Middlebury Public Library, will present its fourth and final workshop of Dancemakers Thursday.

The workshop will be held at the Shepardson Community Center, 1172 Whittemore Road, from 5:45 to 7 p.m. Dancemakers is a series of dance composition workshops that are free and open to the general public ages 5 and up.  The project is funded from a grant from the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development. The workshop is open to all levels of abilities, and canes, walkers and wheelchairs are welcome. No previous dance experience is necessary. 

Dancemakers workshop attendees create their own dance compositions by means of dance improvisation and discussion. Attendees are not required to participate in the workshop and are welcome to observe if they so choose. Refreshments will be served and time for questions and asnwers will follow the workshop.  To regesiter or for more information, call the library at (203) 758-2634. DAV holding monthly meeting

WATERBURY — The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 11 will hold its monthly meeting April 9 at 7 p.m.

The meeting will be held at St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Conference Center on Union Street. A certified service officer will be on hand to help veterans and their families fill out claim forms. Waterbury Hospital hosting women’s wellness event

WATERBURY — Waterbury Hospital is holding its 22nd annual Thank God I’m Female women’s wellness event April 12 from 4:30 to 10 p.m. at Bella Vista, The Ponte Club, in Waterbury. 

This year’s event, “Walk on the Wild Side”, will feature two local speakers Dr. Marc Bernbach, who practices podiatric medicine and surgery at Waterbury Podiatry Consultants, and Michelle Gotay, a local speaker and entertainer. Teresa LaBarbera, traffic reporter and host of “CT Style” on WTNH-TV, Channel 8, will return again as the evening’s special guest.

ADD/ADHD support group to meet

WOLCOTT — The monthly meeting of an ADD/ADHD support group in Wolcott will be held April 16.

The group will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Wolcott Activity and Learning Center, 48 Todd Road. This month’s discussion is: “The Mystery of Hidden Allergies! Is Gluten all it’s cracked up to be? ”

The group will discuss natural options and strategies to manage ADD/ADHD symptoms. All parents dealing with children having ADD/ADHD symptoms are invited to attend. Registration preferred, but walk-ins welcome. To RSVP or for more information, call Dawn Chasse at (203) 879-8987.

Literacy Volunteers holding wine dinner

WATERBURY — The Board of Directors of Literacy Volunteers of Greater Waterbury is holding its annual wine dinner and auction fundraiser April 19 at the Aqua Turf in Plantsville. 

This year’s theme is “April in Paris” and guests will sample and savor French wines, hors d’oeuvres, dinner and dessert. Chris Berman of ESPN will serve as the Master of Ceremonies of the event, which begins at 6 p.m.

Tickets are $75 per person and proceeds will benefit the educational programs of Literacy Volunteers of Greater Waterbury. For more information or to purchase tickets, call (203) 754-1164. 

TEAM hosting Men Who Cook

DERBY — TEAM’s 6th annual Men Who Cook event returns to the Valley on April 20.

The event features over 70 men from the Valley, who are not professional cooks, cook up an array of foods along with a silent auction and dancing. Special MC for the event is Chaz of Chaz and AJ in the morning on 99.1 PLR.

Men Who Cook will be held at Warsaw Park in Ansonia from 6 to 11 p.m. The cost is $55 per person and includes food, beer and wine and soft drinks.

All proceeds from this fundraiser benefit the programs provided by TEAM, Inc, a nonprofit corporation whose mission is to connect individuals and families with solutions that lead to well-being, self-sufficiency and full participation in the community. TEAM programs serve Valley communities, including Beacon Falls.

Tag sale to benefit food bank

OXFORD — The seven Granges in Excelsior Pomona #7 District Grange, which includes the Prospect Grange and Beacon Valley Grange in Naugatuck, will be holding a tag sale to benefit the Connecticut Food Bank April 27.

The tag sale will take place at the hall of Oxford Grange #194, 482 Oxford Road, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those coming to the sale are encouraged to bring an item of canned or boxed food that can be donated to the local Seymour/Oxford food bank.
