MIDDLEBURY — Brass City Ballet, in partnership with the Middlebury Public Library, are launching Dancemakers, a new project with the goal of providing the community a chance to experience the creative process of making dance.

The Dancemakers project, which is being funded through a state grant, begins in March with dance composition workshops that are free and open to the general public ages 5 and up. They are open to all levels of abilities, and canes, walkers and wheelchairs are welcome. Dancemakers workshop attendees will create their own dance compositions by means of dance improvisation and discussion.

The project concludes with an open demonstration of the workshop dances in April and the opportunity to present them on the stage at the ballet’s final year-end performance in June.

The workshops will be conducted at the Middlebury Public Library on March 21, March 28 and April 4 from 5:45 to 7 p.m. The fourth and final workshop will be held April 11 at the Shepardson Community Building in Middlebury. A preview workshop will be held Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. at the library. To register, call the library at (203) 758-2634.

YMCA offering cancer survivor support program

WATERBURY — A few spots are still open in the Greater Waterbury YMCA’s upcoming Livestrong exercise program.

The main goal of the 12-week program is to help cancer survivors return to their “old normal,” and achieve things they didn’t think they were capable of post-treatment. The program is available free of charge to all survivors and one support person.

For the duration of the session, both the survivor and their supporter have full access to the YMCA as well as the twice weekly organized program. Space is limited and on a first-come, first served basis. The next session runs from March 11 to May 31.

For more information or to register, contact Meghan Curley at (203) 754-9622 ext. 155 or livestrong@waterburyymca.org.
