Application period open for elderly, disabled tax program



BEACON FALLS — The assessor’s office is accepting applications for the Elderly Homeowners/Disabled Tax Relief Program.

To be eligible for the program, applicants must be 65 years old as of Dec. 31, 2013 and have owned their primary residence for at least one year and reside at the residence.

Permanently and totally disabled individuals, as defined by Social Security, are eligible to receive benefits as long as they meet all other criteria.

The income limits for the program are $34,100 for a single person and $41,600 for a married couple. Proof of all income for 2013 must be supplied with the application.

Anyone who is currently on the program, and required to file, will receive a notice from the office. The deadline to apply is May 15. For more information, call the assessor’s office at (203) 723-5253.
