NAUGATUCK — Route 68 between Union City Road and Locust Street is closed after a one-car accident damaged two utility poles.
The accident happened at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, police said. No one was seriously injured in the crash, police said.
Eversource spokesman Mitch Gross said two poles were damaged and power lines fell. Two circuits were damaged, and 615 customers in Naugatuck and 400 customers in Prospect lost power, he said.
Power was rerouted to Prospect customers and restored about an hour after the accident, Gross said. Crews are working to reroute power to Naugatuck customers.
Police expect the road to be closed into the evening while utility crews repair the poles. Drivers are urged to avoid the area.
