BEACON FALLS — FuBar: It’s an emergency rescue tool that packs a multitude of functions and is now in the hands of Beacon Hose Company No. 1 firefighters.

Sue and Bill Mis of Beacon Falls have donated six such tools to the company.

The tool is an eight-in-one forcible entry tool made by Stanley.

It’s a basic pry bar with several functions, including a hydrant wrench; a spanner wrench used to tighten couplings and fittings for hoses, and a gas shut-off component, said Jeremy Rodorigo, Beacon Hose spokesman. The tool also can be used to force entry into a home or vehicle.

“This tool kind of does everything, and it’s very cool,” said Rodorigo, holding one of them at the firehouse on North Main Street.

The department has individual tools that this device offers in one package, he said.

One FuBar has been donated for each truck, Rodorigo said. No training is required, but firefighters will be briefed on its features at the next training session after the holidays, he said.

Fire Chief Mike Pratt said the department is grateful for the donation, and the support of Sue and Bill Mis.

Bill Mis said the price for the tool ranges from $160 to $200.

He and his wife declined to disclose the total purchase price, because it is a gift to the department. Their son, John Mis, 23, is a firefighter and medical response technician with Beacon Hose.

Sue Mis, who is also the town nurse, praised the members of Beacon Hose for their efforts.

“They are an amazing bunch of people who do an incredible job,” she said. “They are volunteers.”
