BEACON FALLS — The high water levels in the Naugatuck River May 3 led to the cancelation of the annual Naugatuck Valley River Race, but the Beacon Falls River Fest and duck race went off with out a hitch.

Revelers and vendors alike descended on Volunteer Park for the festival to enjoy an afternoon by the Naugatuck River. The festival featured live music from the Rubber City Blues Band, family activities, food and a releasing of the butterflies ceremony by the Beacon Falls Rotary Club.

The revelry culminated with the Beacon Falls Lion Club’s annual duck race. The race was abbreviated due to the river’s water levels, but crowds gathered on the Depot Street Bridge to watch and cheer during the running of the rubber ducks. The money raised from the duck race benefits local charities.
