WATERBURY — The 10th annual Bob Veillette 5K Road Race and Walk is Sept. 12 at Library Park at Grand and Meadow streets.

The event, which includes a 5K running route and a 1-mile walking circuit, begins at 8:30 a.m. rain or shine. Registration opens at 7 a.m.

All funds raised go toward ongoing medical and living expenses for Naugatuck resident Bob Veillette to allow him to live at home. Veillette suffered a brain stem stroke in 2006 that left him paralyzed from the nose down.

Before his stroke, Veillette was well known in greater Waterbury as an accomplished jazz pianist. He was the managing editor for the Waterbury Republican-American.

Since 2006, the event has raised more than $150,000 to help pay for Veillette’s care. Those who wish to help the Veillettes, but are unable to participate in the event, can donate by sending a check made out to “Locked-in 5K Road Race” to Locked In 5K Road Race, c/o 14 Clearview Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.
