NAUGATUCK — There will be an information meeting Monday to discuss work being done at the intersections of Union Street, North Main Street and City Hill Street.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. in the Hall of Burgesses in Town Hall, 229 Church St.

The state Department of Transportation is doing the project, since Union Street and North Main Street are state roads.

The project, which is underway, includes changes to the traffic flow around the traffic island that separates part of Union Street and City Hill Street near North Main Street.

Naugatuck Public Works Director James Stewart said the traffic island has been moved. As part of the changes, traffic traveling on City Hill Street has the option to stay straight to get onto North Main Street, rather than having to go around the traffic island and taking a left on Union Street.

Stewart said the changes have caused some confusion for drivers traveling on Union Street and looking to take a left onto City Hill Street. Traffic used to turn left before the traffic island, now he said traffic flows around the island from Union Street to take a left onto City Hill Street.

A new traffic light will also be installed at the intersection of Union Street and North Main Street for cars traveling straight down City Hill Street, he said. This will make the intersection a five-way intersection.
