Towns to commemorate Veterans Day

Veterans’ organizations and local officials will mark Veterans Day on Monday with ceremonies in Beacon Falls, Naugatuck and Prospect.

Prospect will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. on the town Green on Center Street. The ceremony will include members of American Legion Post 194 and VFW Post 8075 placing wreathes to honor veterans.

Prospect Mayor Robert Chatfield said any organization that wants to lay a wreath to honor veterans is welcome. Interested organizations should contact Chatfield at Town Hall at 203-758-4461.

American Legion Post 25 in Beacon Falls will host its annual Veterans Day memorial services at 11 a.m. at Matthies Park on Pines Bridge Road. The public is welcomed to attend and participate.

Post 25 will also host an Armistice-Veterans Day Dinner on Saturday starting at 6 p.m. at St. Michael’s Church, 25 Maple Ave. Tickets are $25 per person. Post 25 uses proceeds from the dinner to assist veterans, active military members as well as community members and programs. For information, call Post 25 Adjutant Rich Minnick at 203-640-3119.

The Naugatuck Veterans Council will commemorate Veterans Day with a series of events.

On Sunday, Naugatuck United Methodist Church will host a worship service and luncheon recognizing veterans at the church, 208 Meadow St., starting at 10:15 a.m.

On Monday, council members will lower a float from the Whittemore Bridge into the Naugatuck River at 10:30 a.m. A wreath laying ceremony will take place at the World War I memorial on the Green at 10:45 a.m., followed by the ringing of the bells at 11 a.m.

The annual Veterans Day parade will step off at 2 p.m. from the Ion Bank parking lot, 87 Church St. The parade route goes up Church Street to the Green, where a ceremony will take place.
