NAUGATUCK — The borough will honor Kenneth and Jennifer Stone with the 2019 Franklin Johnson Sr. Citizenship Award.

“Ken and I are both honored and humbled to receive this award. It was a great surprise to us,” Jennifer Stone wrote in an email.

The Stones will be honored Nov. 25 at Jesse Camille’s Restaurant, 615 North Church St., during the annual Mayor’s Breakfast. The breakfast starts at 8 a.m. Tickets are $30. For information, call the Mayor’s Office at 203-720-7009.

The award is named for Franklin Johnson, Sr., a former guidance counselor at Naugatuck High School, and honors someone who has served the borough.

The Stones, who are Naugatuck natives, are known for their work with youth sports in the borough, including Naugatuck Baseball League, Peter J. Foley Little League and Naugatuck Pop Warner.

The Stones have also volunteered their time with the Naugatuck school system. Jennifer Stone has served as a PTO member at Andrew Avenue Elementary School since 2007 and has held the roles of secretary and president. Kenneth Stone has volunteered at events hosted by Andrew Avenue and has been a chaperone during City Hill Middle School’s annual Washington, D.C. trip.

“We volunteer within youth sports and schools in Naugatuck because those same programs helped to guide our lives and make us the people we are today. We like to give back to the people and places that gave so much to us,” Jennifer Stone wrote.
