PROSPECT — The Town Council unanimously elected Republican Jeffrey Slapikas Nov. 15 for a second term as chairman.

Slapikas, a 56-year-old general contractor, is in his sixth term on the council. He served the past two years as chairman. He said it’s a privilege to be re-elected to the council as well as nominated and chosen as chairman again.

“This is an honor to be respected by my fellow council members as I respect all of them,” he said. “I believe I work well and always together with all of the council members.”

Slapikas said his goal for the next two years is to represent the taxpayers and their best interests. He said he plans to work with Mayor Robert Chatfield daily to help him in any manner that is necessary. He added he will work with the mayor and council to form a tight budget and work to increase some services for taxpayers.

“As we know Bob is for the town of Prospect and he always was,” Slapikas said. “There is much to learn from him, and the daily activities and chores he takes upon himself is what I plan to help him with.”

Republicans hold a 5-4 majority on the council, and the council voted along party lines when it came to electing a vice chairman. According to meeting minutes, Republicans nominated Stanley Pilat and Democrats nominated Theresa Graveline, both longtime members of the council, for vice chairman. Pilat was elected vice chairman by a 5-4 vote.
