NAUGATUCK — St. Michael’s Episcopal Church will open its doors on Thanksgiving to anyone looking for a holiday meal and some companionship.

The church is hosting its annual Thanksgiving Dinner from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 28. The dinner is free and open to all residents in the Naugatuck area.

“It provides nice, wholesome food for those who are food insecure. And those folks who want to come and have a place to celebrate in fellowship can come here so they are not all alone at home,” the Rev. Juliusz “Jules” Jodko said.

In the past, Jodko said, the dinner has attracted about 300 people. He expects attendance this year will be similar or slightly higher.

The church is looking for donations for the dinner and volunteers to help out.

Jodko said the church is seeking to raise $1,200 to help pay for the meal. The church is also accepting donations of food, especially turkeys and desserts, he said.

Volunteers are also needed to help cook, serve and clean up after the supper. Preparation for the supper starts the night before Thanksgiving, Jodko said.

To donate, people can mail a check to the church at 210 Church St., Naugatuck, CT 06770 with a note saying the money is for the supper, or call the church office at 203-729-8249 to drop off a monetary donation or food.

Anyone who wants to volunteer can call the church office for information, Jodko said.
