NAUGATUCK — A blasting accident on Field Street Friday morning left large rocks and debris strewn across the road.

Acting Fire Marshal James Gies said the incident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. in the area of 61 Field St. He said the company Blastech was blasting to prepare a building lot at the time of the incident. The company had a permit for the blasting, he said.

There were no injuries reported, he said.

The blast sent rocks, debris and a blasting mat into the road. The blast also took down nearby utility lines. Crews from Eversource Energy and Frontier responded to scene to restore utilities.

The accident closed the road from Route 63 to Hillside Avenue as officials investigated and the scene was cleaned. The road reopened at about 3:30 p.m.

Gies said the incident appears to be an accident, but the cause remains under investigation. The Naugatuck Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause in conjunction with the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
