HARTFORD — State lawmakers on Monday voted to transfer a 0.125-acre parcel to the town of Beacon Falls to relocate the historic Rimmon Schoolhouse.

Gov. Ned Lamont signed the bill the next day. There will be no cost to the town other than the cost of a survey, according to the bill transferring the land.

The town wants the land, which is adjacent to the intersection of North Main Street and Church Street, as the new site for the Rimmon Schoolhouse. The schoolhouse at 101 Pinesbridge Road was built between 1779 and 1830. Nadeem and Naila Khalid, who own the land where the schoolhouse is, have offered to donate the schoolhouse to the town.

The schoolhouse is in disrepair — the floor and roof are not salvageable — but officials plan to work with local contractors to move the walls and replace the roof and floor at the new site.

Under the bill transferring the land, if the town doesn’t use the parcel for the schoolhouse, doesn’t retain ownership of it or leases any of the land, the land reverts to the state.
