NAUGATUCK — Naugatuck Animal Control and a local nonprofit organization found homes for 15 cats taken in following an eviction in just over a week.
Police assisted with an eviction on June 25. The resident owned 15 cats, two dogs and a two rabbits. Due to the eviction, the resident didn’t have the means to care for the animals, police said. The resident voluntarily surrendered the animals to police and asked to put the cats up for adoption, according to police.
Deputy Police Chief C. Colin McAllister said that with the help of Animals for Life, a nonprofit organization that seeks to find homes for animals and runs a shelter at 195 Rubber Ave., homes have been found for all 15 cats.
“The fact that we were able to place all the cats in a little over a week is pretty impressive,” McAllister said.
McAllister said alternative homes were found for the rabbits. The two dogs are still at the animal control facility and the resident is trying to find homes for them, he said.
Along with the help from Animals for Life, McAllister credited the department’s animal control officers for their efforts in helping to bring an unusual situation to a positive resolution.
“They definitely deserve a lot of credit for this,” he said.
