NAUGATUCK — Police are seeking the public’s help to identify a man who fled from officers during a traffic stop early Wednesday morning.

Police said an officer conducted a traffic stop near the Mobil gas station on South Main Street at about 4 a.m. The driver gave the officer a false name, police said, and sped off when a backup officer arrived on the scene. Police said the man fled onto Route 8 South from the Salem Bridge and eluded officers.

Another man and woman were in the car, a maroon 2016 Infiniti with a license plate number of AL23092, at the time, police said.

Police got still photos of the suspect from the officer’s body camera and asked anyone with information to contact Officer Joseph Palhete at 203-729-5222 or the Naugatuck Police Department’s confidential tip line at 203-720-1010.
