Police searching for suspect in burglary at gas station

PROSPECT — State police are searching for a man who smashed his way into a gas station and stole cigarettes.

Police said the burglary occurred at about 1 a.m. Friday at the Fuel 68 gas station and convenience store at 20 Union City Road. The suspect, described as a white man, pulled in behind the store from Old Schoolhouse Road in an unknown type of vehicle, police said. He then walked around to the front of the store and broke the front glass door with a rock.

Police said the man stole several packs of Newport cigarettes from the store before fleeing the scene on Route 68 toward Cheshire.
