NAUGATUCK — Police arrested a 23-year-old man who was found hiding in Town Hall early Wednesday morning.

Police responded to an automatic burglar alarm at Town Hall on Church Street at about 4:50 a.m. When officers searched the building, they found Romaine Patterson of Naugatuck hiding in a metal cabinet, police said.

Patterson told officers that he entered the building the night before for an event and stayed overnight, police said. Borough officials reported that nothing was stolen, according to police.

Police charged Patterson with first-degree burglary. Patterson appeared in Waterbury Superior Court on Wednesday, where the charge was reduced to second-degree criminal trespass, according to information on the Connecticut Judicial Branch’s website. He was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear in court again on April 29.
