NAUGATUCK — Sophie (Milek) Sobireski, 88, widow of Stanley J. Sobireski, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019 at the VITAS Innovative Care unit at St. Mary’s Hospital.
She was born in Orange on Sept. 13, 1930, daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Brejnak) Milek. A longtime Naugatuck resident, she retired from Lewis Engineering after many years of service. Sophie was a communicant of St. Hedwig’s Church. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her trips to the casinos and Pennsylvania.
She leaves her daughters, Joyce Verbisky and her husband, John, of Naugatuck and Janet Webster and her husband, Doug, of Morris; her sister, Helen Ptak of Ansonia; her five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Sophie was predeceased by her daughter, Cynthia Walsh.
The family sends a special thank you to Dr. Ralph Tremaglio and the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital VITAS unit for the special care given to Sophie during her illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Hedwig’s Church, 32 Golden Hill St., Naugatuck. Those attending are asked to please meet at the church at 10:15 a.m. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. Visitation will be held on
Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck.
