NAUGATUCK — The Zoning Commission last month approved plans for a dog training facility and kennel in the Naugatuck industrial park.

Black Rock Canines, LLC, plans to build the facility and kennel at 117 Great Hill Road.

The lot is approximately 5.5 acres and there is a one-story, 18,000-square-foot building on the property, according to the property card. The property, which is owned by Four Dogs, LLC, is assessed at $507,430, according to the property card.

Attorney Kevin McSherry, who represents Black Rock Canines, said the company trains service animals for a variety law enforcement agencies and companies. The dogs will be trained at the facility. The majority of training will take place inside the building with some training in the yard around the building, he said.

The entire perimeter of the property will be fenced in, McSherry said.

The facility will hold up to a maximum of 300 dogs, and the dogs’ waste will be composted on site, McSherry said.

The commission approved the application with the condition that Black Rock Canines submits a map detailing the location of the proposed compost site and a detailed compost plan.
