BEACON FALLS — The Board of Selectmen last week approved the purchase of a 2008 Ford Escape for $4,896.

First Selectman Christopher Bielik said the SUV will be used by employees at the town’s wastewater treatment plant. It will replace the former police vehicle employees use now that “looks like it is going to fall apart the next time it hits a bump somewhere,” Bielik said.

The money to pay for the SUV will come from the town’s undesignated fund balance, which is in excess of $200,000, Bielik said.

The Board of Finance approved the purchase earlier in the month.

Bielik said the SUV is one of five Groton was selling. The other four had already been claimed, and Groton was holding one until Beacon Falls made a decision on the purchase, he said.
