SEYMOUR — The Naugatuck Valley Health District is accepting applications for its Naugatuck Valley Emends Lead Hazards program.

The program uses funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to help homeowners and property owners remove lead-based paint hazards.

The program provides qualified homeowners and tenants with inspections and plans for lead and home safety hazard removal, and financial assistance to remediate hazards. Remediation may include interior repairs, energy-saving windows and doors.

The grants are available to residents of Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Derby, Naugatuck, Seymour and Shelton who live in privately-owned housing built before 1978. The occupants must make an income less than 80 percent of the area median income. For owner-occupied homes, a child under the age of 6 must reside or spend significant time in the home.
