Obituary: Francis Fazzino

NAUGATUCK — Francis “Frank” “Fuzzy” Fazzino, 75, husband of Mary (Murtha) Fazzino, died Jan. 25, 2019 at Bristol Hospital.

Frank was born on June 19, 1943 in Waterbury, the son of the late Cesario and Marion (Cammaratta) Fazzino, and was a lifelong Naugatuck resident. Frank worked at Peter Paul Cadbury and also worked for the Borough of Naugatuck. Frank was a U.S. Army veteran and a life member of the B.P.O. Elks #967. Frank was an active member of the Naugatuck Hall of Fame, and was inducted on Jan. 25, 1986. Frank had many lifelong accomplishments; he excelled as an athlete in football as well as in baseball, which earned him invitations to attend tryouts with the New York Yankees, Minnesota Twins and Washington Senators. In 1968, Frank was an assistant football coach at Naugatuck High School, and in 1991, he coached the Elks Club team to the Naugatuck Babe Ruth Baseball championship. Even after all of his achievements and glory, his favorite past time in his later years was his love of fishing and boating with his grandchildren and friends at his cottage in Winsted.

In addition to Mary, his wife of 51 years, Frank is survived by his daughter, Jamie Fazzino of Watertown; his son, Frank Fazzino and his wife, Francisca, of Woodbury; his grandchildren, Jacob and Juliana; his sister, Annette Musco and her husband, Joseph, of Watertown; his aunt, Josephine Fazzino of Naugatuck; his sister-in-law, Judy Smith of Waterford, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Feb. 2 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Everyone is kindly asked to meet at church. Burial with military honors will follow in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck. Members of the Naugatuck Veterans Council will assemble Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
