NAUGATUCK — David P. Porto, 61, husband of Suzanne M. (Myers) Porto, died unexpectedly on Jan. 20, 2019.

Dave was born in Waterbury on Nov. 6, 1957 a son of Geraldine (Burdette) Hankey and the late Richard Porto, and had lived in Naugatuck for the past 35 years. Dave grew up in Wolcott, where he attended local schools and graduated from Wolcott High School. Dave retired from the Naugatuck Fire Department where he had worked as a dispatcher and was presently working part-time at the Naugatuck Police Department and at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Dave was an incredibly kind and generous person, whose greatest joy was his family. Dave loved spoiling his children and his grandchildren; he was an avid walker and he liked to shop, especially for bargains.

In addition to his wife, Sue, and his mother, Geraldine, Dave is survived by his son, David R. Porto and his wife, Jenna; his daughter, Nicole Deeley and her husband, Bart; his grandchildren, Olivia, Aidan, Jack, Luke, Julianne and Ryan; his brother, Michael Porto and his wife, Diane; his sisters, Deborah Porto-Velez and her husband, Jaime, Carolyn Jean Wilton and her husband, Paul, and Doreen Santoli and her husband, Frank, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, and Dave’s canine companion, Sophi.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Jan. 24 at 9 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Everyone is kindly asked to meet at church. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.
