BEACON FALLS — The town has received a grant to help buy a new snowplow dump truck for the Public Works Department.

During the Board of Selectmen’s Jan. 14 meeting, First Selectman Christopher Bielik said the $40,905 grant is from EVConnecticut, which is a partnership between the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

The new truck would replace a nearly 20-year-old snowplow dump truck, Bielik said. The truck is expected to cost about $160,000, he said, and the town’s share will be about $120,000.

Bielik said officials have a few options to pay for the truck, including putting it in the 2019-20 budget as a capital expenditure, using money from the unexpended general fund balance, or looking into a lease payment.

“We are going to look at all of the options we have on the table. It will manifest itself during the budget process,” Bielik said.

According to the grant, the town has until Aug. 31 to buy the truck.
