PROSPECT — After more than six years working in the Region 16 school district, Director of Finance and Business Operations Pamela Mangini is leaving the district to take a job with North Haven Public Schools.

“It is with mixed emotions that I present this letter of resignation. I have recently been offered a position that I believe will allow me to better balance my work and personal life,” Mangini wrote in her letter of resignation, which was accepted by the Board of Education during its Jan. 23 meeting.

Mangini, who lives in Hamden, said she has accepted the position of director of finance for North Haven Public Schools. Her last day in Region 16, which is comprised of Beacon Falls and Prospect, will be March 1.

In her letter, Mangini wrote that she will work to ensure the 2019-20 school budget proposal is completed for submission to the board on Feb. 27 and will be available to answer any questions after she leaves.

“We’ve been very pleased to have you here the years that you’ve been her and look forward to finishing up with you up until March 1,” school board Chair Robert Hiscox told Mangini during the board meeting.

The school board hired Mangini in the fall of 2012. Before coming to Region 16, Mangini was the business administrator for the Region 13 school district, which is comprised of Durham and Middlefield.

“I have been honored to serve Region 16 over the past six-plus years as its director of finance. I am proud of the efficiencies and accomplishments that I achieved during my tenure resulting in improved processes, significant savings and successful audits,” Mangini wrote in her letter of resignation. “I am also pleased to have helped the district work through the multi-phase school construction project, as well as the security improvement upgrade. I am comfortable knowing that I am leaving the district in good order, and I am confident that these efforts have set a positive path that I know will continue.”

Region 16 Superintendent of Schools Michael Yamin said the district is actively looking for an interim finance director — and had interviews lined up last week — until a full-time replacement can be hired. The job opening will be posted for three weeks, he said, with a salary range of $140,000 to $160,000.

Mangini’s salary for this fiscal year is about $145,000, she said.

“It’s a challenging position to fill, and Pam will be missed,” Yamin said.
